Lupus rash disease
This entry was posted on Jan 03 2012
Skin manifestations are frequent in lupus and can sometimes lead to scarring. In discoid lupus, only the skin is typically involved. The lupus rash and associated skin disease is one of the most common lupus symptoms in women and men, appearing in approximately 2/3 of all lupus patients.
There are a variety of ways that cutaneous lupus rashes can appear. The distinctive rash is called the “butterfly rash,” which is a rash that extends across the cheeks of the face and the bridge of the nose. It can be flat or raised; it can be bright red or it can be just a mild blushing, light pink coloration to the skin.
